5 cups flour
2 cups milk
3 eggs
1 square yeast cake or 1 1/2 packets dried yeast
8 bread slices (cubed) (quality bread, no mushy crap)
1 Tbsp Salt
Sugar
Heat milk to luke warm, add a pinch of sugar and dissolve in yeast
(do not get the milk too hot or it will kill the yeast)
Add flour, eggs, salt and warm milk mixture. Mix well.
Dough should be very thick with no lumps and ceases sticking to the bowl
Mom went hi-tech and used a dough mixer. Jechisch Maria!!
Mix in bread cubes slowly to get even dispersion
Finished batter in the mixer. It chops up the bread some.
Maybe the last step is better done by hand.
Empty mixture onto floured counter and knead into four loaves
Cover with a towel and let rise for an hour in a warm, dry place
Bring a large pot of salted water to a slow rolling boil.
Boil each loaf for ten minutes then flip over and boil for another ten minutes
After removing each loaf, place it on a plate and cut into 3/4 to 1 inch slices
(Happy now?)
Serve with any dish that has gravy. Um, um, good!
